Equity in Educational Technology
In education we need to be committed to ensuring our efforts reflect the needs of our classrooms and schools, as well as equity and inclusion. How can we leverage technology
to reach our goals? Come learn with us on how to navigate this landscape and how it can be possible. Attendees will learn about the intersectionality of equity and educational technology. New ideas and strategies that attendees will learn include vetting digital platforms and resources through an anti-racist lens, what an educator should look for when searching for equitable technology and technology platforms, the potential dangers of not checking a resource before you give it to students, the importance of student choice and voice, and the importance of elevating women and people of color in curriculum, among others. Attendees will also create or modify pre-existing or future lessons to incorporate technology with the purpose of making classrooms, lessons, and curriculum anti-racist. Ideally, attendees will use the strategies that are given in this session or will discover strategies of their own that may work in their classrooms.

Pleasure reading, libraries, and heritage language development (K-12+)
Self-selected pleasure reading (largely fiction) is the most efficient and possibly the most pleasant way of acquiring language known. Self-selected pleasure reading, however, requires access to books, always sparse in high-poverty areas. For children of poverty, the library is the major source of reading material. Despite the many advantages of heritage language development, the best way of developing the HL is rarely possible. Even in relatively widely spoken languages (e.g. Spanish), there is little access to books, and in some cases (e.g. Farsi) nearly none at all. Presentation Resources

Zumba
Hi there! My name is Landi and I have been a licensed Zumba instructor for just over 4 years! I can't wait to shake it with you! Here are some tips for our class:
- Bring water!
- If you tend to sweat a lot, have a towel handy
- Clear your dancing space free of any furniture so you don't run into anything - we definitely will be moving around!
- If you are dancing on carpet, be careful with shuffling and pivoting your feet so we don't mess up any akles or knees
- I will keep dancing and grab water when I need it, but the music will keep playing. If you need a break, take it! Jump back in when you're ready!
- Listen to your body! Modify the steps and moves if you need to. I always start each song with the basic moves and then add to each move a little more as we dance. If you can't quite get the steps down, no worries! You burn the same amount of calories moving to the let as you do the right :)
- The most important thing in Zumba is to keep dancing (even if you need to modify or improvise) and have fun!
- Music through Zoom sometimes can cut in and out and we are bound to have moments where freezing or glitching happens. Just roll with it and jump back in!
- I highly recommend a device with a large screen and that you can connect to external speakers (bluetooth headphoones, extra set of loud speakers). I will have my music turned all the way up, but the sound through a laptop may not be as loud as you'd like.

I hope you have a great time! :)

Super-size your Graphic Novel section (6-12)
Are you overwhelmed by the available graphic novels and manga that are unreviewed? Many library selection policies call for librarians to find professional reviews for the items they put into their collections, but there is an overwhelming lack of reviews available for graphic novels. In this session, I will provide recommendations on titles to buy to expand their comicbook, manga, and graphic novel sections with quality titles your students will love. Presentation Resources

Moving from Advocate to Activist for Today's School Library Program (K-12+)
School libraries and the existence of the school librarian has become a point of discussion for school districts across the country. While some districts respect and support the work of these essential practitioners, other districts have opted to eliminate them. So what are you going to do about it? The time has come for school librarians to fight back with a different message unlike other messages used before. Join K.C. Boyd for a lively discussion on advocacy, activism and effectively fighting against unjust and unfair practices in K-12 education. Presentation Resources

History: Truth and Fiction (9-12)
One of the Teacher Librarian hats is to promote collaboration between departments and between disciplines, spicing up nonfiction with fictional characters. For example, combining history research on the 1920's while reading "The Great Gatsby" for English, culminating in a Gatsby Ball, with 20's cuisine, Charleston lessons, (but no bathtub gin). Bring your stories of your best collaborations.  Presentation Resources

The Convergence of Intrinsic Motivation and Career Pathway opportunities through Media Literacy (9-12+)
During this session I will present two initiatives taken creating transformation change in learners.
A)Imagine a 'game' where students are empowered to navigate through and embark on a career quest, draw on elements of their personal character and illustrate how these elements tie into their future career goals. Through interactive game play, students assemble their story. The game quests and challenges help them determine a career path in which they reflect on how their personality matches their career choice. They get to know better their character strengths and understand how they can shape themselves into who they are, and what they ultimately want to be in this.
B) Can we create transformational change in learners via self reflections based on reading and journal writinngs, group discussion, meaningful dialogue, and critical analysis? We take a closer look at some of the questions we aimed to answer in this unit: What is the definition of success?Should intelligence be considered the largest factor of success? What factors are necessary to be successful in life, at school or work? We will look at the engaging activities over the 9 lesson unit.
